The ACC&C will host a Service of Prayer and Reflection to mark Refugee Week 2016 on Sunday 26 June. The Service has been organised in partnership with the Faith-Based Working Group of the Canberra Refugee Action Committee.
The guest speaker will be Clara Khayat-Nordblom. Born in Aleppo, Syria, Clara came to Australia with her husband and two children in 1989, and lives in Wagga Wagga. While working in the social welfare sector, Clara followed her interest in reading on Islamic Studies, Philosophy and other subjects, earning a Master of Arts (Public and Contextual Theology) from Charles Sturt University in 2013.
She has a love for exploring the scriptures of the three Abrahamic faiths. While working with the Wagga
Wagga multicultural council and Centacare, Clara assisted the settlement of refugees from different faiths and backgrounds and witnessed the refugees' courage and faith carrying them through their journey in adjusting to their new home.
The Service of Prayer and Reflection will feature music from the African Gospel Choir, Don Nordblom on oud and Daniel Cotton on piano, and will be followed by a shared meal.
