Reverend CostelloThe Reverend Tim Costello, one of Australia's most respected community leaders and social justice advocates, will be the guest speaker at our first Explorations Series lecture for 2020.

Reverend Costello was the Chief Executive of World Vision Australia for thirteen years and is currently the Executive Director of Micah Australia, dealing with the challenge of global poverty and putting it on the national agenda.

In his Explorations lecture, the Reverend Costello will discuss what is missing in the current debate about refugees and what steps we can take to defuse the toxic war of words that has damaged our national soul.

'We need to step away from narrow nationalism and stereotyping born of ignorance and fear. We must instead advocate for pragmatic, humane and sensible policies that do not treat refugees and asylum seekers merely as those to be feared, patronised or pitied, but as fellow global citizens who have a fundamental right to share a world that is home to all of us.'
