Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture

Yindyamarra Podcast

Professor Anthony Maher spoke with Professor Stan Grant and Jack Jacobs on their Yindyamarra podcast about faith, hope, love and democracy. Professor Maher discussed plans to build a National Sacred Space at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture that reflects contemporary Australia, centred on ecumenical invitation, indigenous heart and interfaith outreach. There was also talk of pain, forgiveness and reconciliation. Drawing on liberation theologian, Ignacio Ellacuria, Prof Maher said “You can’t do theology in Australia unless you’re looking at the genocide of indigenous people. So if I’m to do theology in Australia, I can’t turn my back on that.” He then gave three steps towards reconciliation: name reality, shoulder reality, take responsibility. Adding to that, Stan Grant said, ‘share it and forgive.’
