"Australia's immigration debate: where next?" roundtable

10 Dec 2025 - by Liz Jakimow

On 24 November, the Centre hosted a powerful conversation led by Stan Grant on immigration, drawing on the ethos of Yindyamarra: where we are matters more than who we are. Participants brought multiple perspectives from law, ethics, advocacy and theology and the discussion highlighted both the complexity of the debate about immigration and the simplicity of the core themes: how we can enable human flourishing in a sustainable Australia into the future.

"Australia’s Immigration Debate: Where next?” roundtable was held in conjunction with Charles Sturt University, Rehman Sheriff Group, Salaam Institute and Migration Institute of Australia.

The panellists included: Farhan Rehman, Principal Lawyer, Rehman Sheriff Group; Alex Kaufman, Playfair Lawyer and ACT/NSW Branch of the Migration Institute of Australia; Clive Hamilton, Professor of Public Ethics at Charles Sturt University; Amy Erickson, St Mark’s National Theological Centre; and Daniel Ghezelbash, Director of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, UNSW.

If you weren't able to join us on Monday, the recording is now available on YouTube.

Don't miss this chance to hear what they have to say -- a conversation that is worth continuing into the future!
