Professor Sherlock will continue in his substantive role while taking on the additional responsibility of leading the ACC&C. The ACC&C and Yindyamarra Nguluway share many synergies. In this dual role, drawing on his experience in theology and in working with First Nations Peoples, Peter is well placed to maximise the benefits of these synergies for both initiatives, for Charles Sturt University and for the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. Please join me in congratulating Peter on his appointment.

Lin Hatfield Dodds, Chair of the ACC&C Board, said:

The Board is very pleased to welcome Professor Sherlock's appointment to the ACC&C,. His experience in executive leadership roles in faith-based organisations and the university sector makes him a very good fit for the Centre. I look forward to working closely with him over the coming months.

Professor Sherlock said:

I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to the unique work of the ACC&C at Charles Sturt. The wisdom of ancient, living traditions is sorely needed across our world in this present moment of crisis. The resilience and spirituality of First Nations Peoples in this land and the deep wells of Christian thought and practice have much to offer to each other and to the wider community. I look forward to engaging with the Board, staff and supporters of the ACC&C alongside my work with Stan Grant and Yindyamarra Nguluway as together we deliver our vision to create wisdom for the common good.

Professor Sherlock was previously Foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University of Divinity from 2012 to 2024 working with over forty Christian churches and faith-based organisations. His most recent book (co-authored with Daniel Nellor) Theology Matters: How Thinking About God Shapes Australia (Coventry Press, 2024) was launched in Canberra at the ACC&C in July 2025. His next book,  The Monuments of Westminster Abbey: Power and Memory in Early Modern Britain, will be published by Routledge in November 2025.
