Renowned cellist, David Pereira, to perform at the ACC&C

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming '70 Not Out!' Concert Series presented by renowned cellist David Pereira. This series of concerts will take place at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture (ACC&C) in Barton from July to December 2023.

The series marks David’s return to Canberra, following the success of his previous cello-focused recital series, 'The David Pereira Cello Series', which earned him the esteemed CityNews Canberra Critics Circle's 2010 ACT Artist of the Year Award.

Thanks to a special memorandum of understanding recently established between David and the ACC&C, these monthly performances will be held on Sundays at 1pm in the beautiful Chapel at the Centre. The Chapel provides an ideal setting for chamber music with its exceptional acoustics and the presence of an excellent piano.

The first concert in the series 'It has to sing!' will take place in the Chapel at 1pm on 23 July, where David will be joined by the brilliant Edward Neeman on piano and the enchanting voice of Lilliam Fromyhr. The program will include new and old music by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Friedman, Henderson, Gounod, Fromyhr and Pereira, for cello, voice and piano.

The title "70 Not Out" is a playful reference to David's upcoming birthday in September and his commitment to continue his musical career. Rather than retiring, David is determined to keep playing, much to the delight of his audience and the ACC&C community.

Through his cello-playing, David says he seeks to ‘find sounds that provide inspiration, meaning, hope, consolation, meditation, invigoration, relief, therapy, the communion of souls, and glimpses of the Divine.’
