At the beginning of October, Professor Paul Oslington (Director of the St James Institute in Sydney), along with Cameron West (Anglican Chaplain at ADFA) walked 100km from St Saviour’s Cathedral in Goulburn to the foot of the Great Cross at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. They see the route becoming a new Australian pilgrimage or “Canberra Camino.”
Paul Oslington and Cameron West began the route with a blessing ceremony at St Saviour's Anglican Cathedral in Goulburn, then walked a route that included Collector, Gundaroo, Sutton, Majura, along Mount Ainslie and into Canberra.
They hope that this route will become an authentically Australian pilgrimage – one that incorporates the ancient and beautiful landscape of Australia instead of cathedrals.
The symbol for the pilgrimage is the mural image of the Holy Spirit by Hector Jandanay, as seen on the ACC&C's Mural Wall.
Paul Oslington and Cameron West were also at the Centre in June for the Sacred Journeys Conference, where Paul Oslington discussed their vision for the pilgrimage. You can read more about that conference here.
