History of Charles Sturt in Port Macquarie
The first intake of students at Charles Sturt Port Macquarie campus occurred in March 2012 with the official opening on May 1, 2012. This represents a new chapter for Charles Sturt University, Port Macquarie and the Hastings region as this is Charles Sturt's first coastal, regional campus. It provides opportunities for students with the desire to study close to the beach, as well as options for local students to access the resources of a world-class university close to home. On April 18, 2016, staff and students moved into Stage One of their purpose built campus. There are another two stages expected to be complete over the coming years with an expected student intake of 5000 by the year 2030.
The next few years will see continued growth of courses offered at the Port Macquarie campus, as well as the growth of the campus itself. Charles Sturt representatives are building relationships with the local community, in business, government and other educational institutions, to ensure that the Campus is a significant contributor to the future of the entire region.
