Proud past, strong future
Foundation Day gives us a chance to celebrate our 32nd anniversary as a university. We had hoped to get together in person, but the current COVID -19 restrictions have seen us move to a virtual celebration.

We're taking Foundation Day online this year, with lots of ways for you to get involved without even leaving home.
Plant a tree
Sustainability is a major part of who we are at Charles Sturt. Join the team from Sustainability at Charles Sturt for tips on choosing and nurturing the perfect plant for your yard, and get involved in our virtual tree planting. Don’t forget to use #WeAreCharlesSturt to share your efforts with the world!
Our cockatoo mascot Charlie is checking out some moments in Charles Sturt’s past, present and future. Can you find where he’s hiding? Keep an eye on our Charles Sturt University Facebook Page, find Charlie and tell us where the image is from for your chance to win some awesome Charles Sturt merchandise.
Time to reflect
On Foundation Day, we’ll share a video capturing all the big moments from the past 12 months. See some of what our community has achieved and how we’ve come together to face challenges. Be inspired by the excitement of Graduation and Orientation, or the incredible ways our community banded together to support firefighters living on our campus at Port Macquarie during the bushfire crisis.
Join the celebrations
We want to know your greatest achievements in the past year. Perhaps you became the first in your family to graduate from university, made a difference to others in our community, or embraced online learning. We’d also like to see how you’re celebrating this Foundation Day, planting trees, baking impressive cakes or relaxing in your favourite Charles Sturt hoodie! To share your Charles Sturt moments, use the hashtag #WeAreCharlesSturt
What is Foundation Day?
Charles Sturt University was created through an Act of Parliament that was formally incorporated on 19 July 1989. Each year, we celebrate the founding of our university with Foundation Day. Held on the Wednesday closest to 19 July, Foundation Day is a chance to come together and celebrate our proud history with our community of students, staff, alumni and supporters.
