February 2021: Development Update

Dear Users,

Stage 2B – In the last month the final project milestone was reached! Practical completion of the Stage 2B building and Courtyard (late variation) was granted.

What has been pulled together is nothing but amazing, and just in time for our Staff, Students to partners to enjoy. As this milestone marks the end of the Port Stage 2 project (PMQ2), this will also be the last monthly communication and we hope you have enjoyed the journey.

The Project Team is extremely pleased with the final result and hopes Staff, Students and visitors have this same feeling when they occupy and use these exceptional spaces.

Special thanks needs to be expressed to;

Staff & Students that have been tirelessly involved in;

  • Initial User Group Meetings – that brought forward the ideas and requirements for each and every space within this Precinct.
  • Project Control Group (PCG) Meetings – where directions and approvals were provided to the Project Team to allow the project to be completed to the level we see today.
  • Operational & Administrative Staff – that patiently rolled with the scope and programme adjustments, and allowed their Campus to operate ‘business as usual’.
  • Division/Faculty Executive & Mangers – that assisted in making the forward thinking decisions (most with short notice) that allowed this project to come in on budget and ready for our Students in Session 1 - 2021.

External Consultants & Contractors;

  • Savills Project Management – for their professionalism and greater understanding of tertiary education institutes and their sometimes difficult organisational structures (and forever changing during this project).
  • BVN Architects (and their team of dedicated Sub-consultants) – that listened to the original brief and developed a design that not only compliments the Stage 1 building however accommodates exceptional spaces for all Users to experience and cements CSU within the Port Macquarie Community.
  • Lahey Constructions (and their professional team of sub-contractors) – that took a pile of black & white plans and created nothing less than a master piece. Their experience and dedication to detail is second to none and this will be appreciated by all Staff, Students and our Community Partners that have the opportunity to work and learn in these facilities.

Apologies for anyone that has been missed above, however the Project Team thanks anyone that has played any part in this project since and including the initial ‘Position Paper’ that was developed back in 2017 (when I had straight hair). A job well done! We also would like to express our thanks to all those that have been involved but moved on prior to completion, their efforts are much appreciated and don’t go unforgotten nor without recognition.
