Through this paid internship program, you will be given the opportunity to work on key IBM client projects providing you with industry experience and mentoring from IBM professionals.

On completion of your internship, you have the opportunity to apply for a graduate position at IBM, allowing you to build a career at IBM while residing in regional NSW.

Roles

You could work in one of the following roles upon graduation.

  • Data Specialist
    • As a Data Specialist, you will work alongside IBM specialists in making available, integrating, and optimising structured and unstructured data using database products, technologies, and methods.
    • Typical deliverables examples are database designs, information models (logical, physical, dimensional, etc.), data migration plans, and data warehouses.
    • You will have the opportunity to use your learnings and translate data into intelligence and help organisations take actionable decisions.
    • You will be working with various tools and technologies involving extraction, transformation, data classification, modelling scenarios and developing dashboards and reports.

    Data Analyst

    • Your primary responsibility is to collect, manipulate and analyse data to determine trends using standard methods to provide reports in visual forms.
    • You will learn Data Collection, Data Cleaning, work with large data sets, scripting and coding in R, C++ and/or Python.

    Data Scientist

    • You will convert business problems into an analytics solution using consulting skills and business knowledge to analyse business issues, formulate hypotheses and test conclusions to determine appropriate solutions methods.
    • You will apply statistics, modelling, operations research, computer science and applications, and math to communicate findings to both business and IT leaders.
  • Application Developer
    • As an Application Developer, you will be involved in projects alongside IBM Specialists in translating IT requirements in the design, development, and assembly of components to create custom information systems.
    • The typical examples of your deliverables are functional and technical designs, models, components, code, unit tests, and documentation.
    • As an intern you will be responsible for assisting with the Level 2 and 3 support of the application, including Service Requests, minor software patch updates, maintenance of support documentation and other existing application documentation, and the complete life cycle of minor enhancements.
  • Designer
    • Thomas J. Watson said it best: “Good design is good business.” Designers at IBM work to create experiences that work together, work the same, and work for our clients.
    • As a designer you will work with IBM specialists to understand user’s needs and behaviours for the industries in which they work.
    • You will participate in design such as user/design research, interviews, and workshops.
    • You will translate findings into usable, useful, effective, and efficient user experiences and learn how to deliver ideas clearly and quickly to cross-functional teams.

    Service Designer

    • You will conduct design research and facilitate workshops with stakeholders and users.
    • You will map out user journeys and service blueprints.
    • You will visualize and present your findings.
    • Your work will contribute to the collective understanding of the end-to-end, front-to-back experience by mapping the orchestration of events at the intersection of technology, business, and design.

    UX/UI Designer

    • You will test and validate working hypothesis with users through designing and usability testing of wireframes, and low to mid-fidelity prototypes.
    • You will be designing the architecture of the functions and information of the experience, the interaction patterns between functions/information and users/customers, and navigation pathways through an experience.

Who can apply?

  • Second or third year Charles Sturt students studying one of the following courses:
  • Exceptions may be made for mature-age first-year students who have a history of full-time employment.
  • Students who can complete the internship hours in the IBM office located on Charles Sturt’s Bathurst Campus.
  • Those who have achieved a minimum of a Pass grade on all subjects undertaken to date.
  • Students 18 years or older.
  • Those available to complete any required background checks and AGSVA baseline security clearances (must be an Australian citizen).

What is the commitment?

  • 20 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year.
  • Hours must be completed within normal office hours – Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
